To the right side – pitchforks, to the left – horns

At a time when people, having welcomed Christmas, wished each other peace and tranquillity not only in church, the two most popular curly-haired figures in the country once again locked horns like goats on a bridge.

There was nothing unexpected. At least somewhat more attentive political observers had already predicted that the new Seimas would not be boring either, especially with the return of one of the most active participants in the political circus.
Constant conflicts with everyone have given Žemaitaitis his dizzying ratings, allowing him to rise to second place in the Man of the Year elections. The eternal former feuds with conservative leaders have also brought Nausėda, named Man of the Year for the sixth year in a row, to the top of the popularity charts.
It is difficult to stay out of the limelight when the right wing has pitchforks in your ribs.
Having received the crumbs of the power cake, Žemaitaitis immediately showed that he would not linger in the shadows Skvernelis or Paluckas and would not miss the opportunity to grab at the throat of his usual rivals and his new allies.
Žemaitaitis, who has not even had time to warm up his legs in power, has already demanded the post of Deputy Speaker of the Seimas, or else he threatens to pull out of the coalition. Not getting what he wanted, he accused Skvernelis of holding the whole coalition hostage.
For the president, who had pretended not to notice the emerging flirtation of the left with Žemaitaitis for a long time, the latter has also become a new boxing pear to blow off the accumulated political steam. After all, it is lovely to have found partners worthy of each other.
Commenting on the bickering that has already started among the ruling party, Nausėda noted the apparent desire of Žemaitaitis to rock the coalition ship.
The latter was quick to retort that the master of the Daukantas Square mansion was trying to rock the ship and might even want it to sink.
„Christmas for whom, intrigue for whom“, quipped the representative of the newly-formed government.
Paluckas has so far kept the waves at bay, reassuring that there are no serious conflicts, and if there were, he is ready to reconcile Žemaitaitis and Nausėda.
However, today, it is much easier to imagine that the two politicians who competed for the presidency will continue to lock horns.
Unless Nausėda naively hopes that the political rabble-rouser will be able to break them as quickly as Žemaitaitis himself once managed to straighten the curls that suddenly appeared on his head. Otherwise, the left and its godfather could be in trouble.
