According to the MEP, public emotional statements and disputes „do not add up to anything“, and solutions to issues can be found through discussion.
„I have repeatedly said and stressed that the most important task for the ruling majority at the moment is to focus on implementing the Government Programme, to prepare a plan of measures with concrete actions and to solve the problems that have accumulated in the country. The people of Lithuania are waiting for work that will improve their lives, and the Government was approved it and has already started work. This is the most important thing right now,“ Blinkevičiūtė told Elta in a written comment.
„Certainly, there should be as little as possible of public emotional statements, reckless remarks, and repetitions. I think that such behaviour does not adorn anything. All disagreements can be resolved by discussion and respectful consultation within the coalition,“ said the LSDP leader.
Blinkevičiūtė assured that as much time as necessary would be given to resolve the issues concerning the coalition agreement.
„We have discussed how we will work and what we will do in the coalition agreement and the Government Programme. These are the two signposts to be followed. We are looking for a constructive solution, and I do not doubt that we will find an agreement. And we will take as much time as necessary to find it,“ the Social Democrat added.
ELTA recalls that on Wednesday, the Coalition Council discussed the situation regarding the statements of Žemaitaitis about the possible withdrawal of Nemuno Aušra from the ruling majority.
On Monday, the Chairman of Nemuno Aušra stated that he would raise the question of staying in the coalition if his candidacy for the position of Vice-Chairman of the Seimas was not submitted soon. On Tuesday, he assured that such considerations were serious enough.
However, the coalition partners had earlier said that the leader of Nemuno Aušra could only be nominated for the position of Deputy Speaker of the Seimas once his legal problems were resolved. However, Žemaitaitis believes that once his legal immunity has been lifted, there are no more obstacles to his running for the position of Deputy Speaker of the Seimas.
Žemaitaitis is currently facing a criminal case at the Vilnius Regional Court, where he is accused of inciting hatred against Jews and publicly endorsing, denying or grossly disparaging international crimes.
