„Undoubtedly, I think that the Liberal Movement is a political force with which we could certainly find a common language, and I think that we could work together,“ Blinkevičiūtė told Žinių Radijas on Friday.
Eugenijus Gentvilas, the elder of the Liberal Movement group in the Seimas, said on Monday that he did not rule out the possibility that the political force he represented could be in a centre-left coalition with the Social Democrats. However, he stressed that in this case, the Liberals would make very clear demands on tax policy and self-government issues.
When Blinkevičiūtė spoke about the possible outlines of a coalition back in August, Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen, the Chairwoman of the Liberal Movement, stressed that the political force she leads is not on a path with populists or „radicals under the banner of anti-Semitism“.
This was her reaction to the possibility of working together with the Remigijus Žemaitaitis-led Nemuno Aušra (Dawn of Nemunas) after the elections.
She would see the Democrats and the Peasants in a coalition
Speaking about other possible coalition partners, Blinkevičiūtė named the Democratic Union Vardan Lietuvos (In the Name of Lithuania) and the Lithuanian Peasants and Greens Union (LVŽS), currently in opposition.
„We could certainly agree and work well with the Vardan Lietuvos (In the Name of Lithuania) party and the Peasants. I think our cooperation has already been tested to a certain extent by working in the opposition in the Seimas. If successful, we could form a ruling majority; I do not doubt that,“ said the Social Democrat leader.
Earlier this week, the leader of the Democrats, Saulius Skvernelis, said that the Social Democrats would be the most suitable partners for his party in a new majority. However, he said that the party's Chairman, who is not running for the Seimas, would be an obstacle to cooperation with the Peasants, and he would therefore prefer to avoid a coalition with Ramūnas Karbauskis' party.
Speaking about the kind of coalition the Peasants would want, Karbauskis assured that he would only work with his former comrade Skvernelis in the ruling majority if the latter were not in the Government.
The Seimas elections will take place on 13 October.
