Lithuanians choose vacations in their country based on the sun

This year’s early and warm spring boosted the domestic tourism market in April. Some accommodation premises received up to a third more vacationers than at the same time last year. After a slowdown in local tourist trips in May, June is back on the rise. Businesses offering recreational services notice Lithuanians demonstrate their dependence on weather forecasts while planning their vacations or weekend trips. They often rush to book accommodations just a few days before the weekend.

Holidays according to the sun

Rasa Tamošiūnaitė, the Head of the SBA holiday complex and camping Slėnis Trakuose: „Based on the number of reservations or calls we receive, it is safe to assume that the weather forecasters have predicted a sunny and warm weekend. As soon as the weather forecast for the whole week is released, guests spontaneously make their decisions and make a reservation for accommodation. However, during the peak season, this strategy does not always work because, due to limited supply, only the first ones succeed.“

According to Tamošiūnaitė, the hot weather in April resulted in 30 per cent more bookings than last year before the season started. In May, when there were fewer warm days, the number of holidaymakers was about the same as last year. However, the hot sun in June attracted 30 per cent more guests to the Galvės Lake peninsula for nature-surrounded recreation. The Head of the holiday complex and camping states that, even with changing weather conditions, guests enjoy spending time in nature by the lake, bathing in the sauna, and using the hot tub.

Meanwhile, guests visiting from different countries who come to Slėnis Trakuose with campers or stay in the camping area with tents are more cautious and reserve their spots in advance. Tamošiūnaitė claims that reservations made by foreign visitors have increased by approximately 40 per cent this year. Travellers from Germany and Poland who visit Vilnius and Trakai are the most frequent guests staying here.

Preference to separate areas for relaxation and entertainment

Rasa Tamošiūnaitė, the Head of the SBA holiday complex and camping Slėnis Trakuose, explains further: „We provide accommodations for guests with different expectations for their holidays. Some prefer to relax in nature, enjoy the sandy beach, walk along the lake shore and savour a refreshing beverage. On the contrary, other guests favour more active holidays with water activities such as paddleboards, electric surfboards, jumping into the water from inflatable water launch pad, or pedal boats. For this reason, this year, we have decided to separate these areas into two different sandy beaches, something holidaymakers greatly appreciate.“

Tamošiūnaitė notes that guests with different expectations can find the most suitable space for a more extended holiday or a weekend getaway in the resort overlooking Trakai Castle. For those seeking tranquillity, renting cabins tucked farther away in the area surrounded by trees is recommended. At the same time, those seeking to socialise or visit with a group can choose to stay in rooms in the manor house or the cottages.

Tamošiūnaitė: „This year, many companies and organisations are hosting summer festivals in the great outdoors, with hundreds and sometimes even more than 1000 participants attending. The bountiful geography of the SBA holiday complex and camping, located on a 6-ha peninsula, allows for the simultaneous provision of areas for quieter gatherings, dining, and exciting sports competitions or boisterous concerts.“

Prices did not increase this year

Tamošiūnaitė further presents the season’s news: „We have invested substantially for this season to ensure our guests have a comfortable experience. We’ve renovated the rooms in the manor house and cottages, as well as the showers and kitchenette in the camping area. We’ve also created a new beach for entertainment and, at the request of our guests, opened a bar on the beach for convenience. The restaurant Jausmas, which caters to guests, offers an updated menu. Additionally, for the first time this year, it is possible to arrive at the Slėnis Trakuose by boat from Trakai.“

Tamošiūnaitė concludes that, despite the recent price increase for many products and services, the holiday complex and camping managed to keep prices unchanged from last year. A double room costs EUR 60, a day visit to the sandy beach with free sun loungers costs EUR 6 for an adult and EUR 4 for a child, and parking in the car park costs EUR 5. At Kempinge Trakuose, up to 100 guests can reside in rooms and cottages, with more than 100 campers in the camping area.
